The capital plunges into darkness as Sadam plots to conquer Joseon, and the King travels to Mt. Baekdu to save Prince Rin after a demon attack.
Haejong stops Sadam from sacrificing Yeon-ha in order to resurrect the dragon god, but the Millennium Flower he accepts from Yeon-ha affects him.
Sadam captures Yeon-ha again as revenge against Haejong. Meanwhile, Rin's coronation is to be held at court but is delayed by the possessed Haejong.
12 years later, cursed to see ghosts, Rin is an irresponsible playboy. His half-brother Gi-san is the king and Do-ha searches for her sister Yeon-ha.
Sadam joins the royal court. It is suggested that Rin marry Soo-ryeon, the Prime Minister’s daughter. Meanwhile, he mistakenly takes Do-ha's bracelet.
Rin rescues Do-ha but her bracelet continues to cause issues. Later he is put in charge of the temple that ensures the peace and safety of the nation.
Do-ha is shocked when she attempts to become a priest and finds that Rin is head of the temple. Later Moo-seok is ordered to guard and monitor Rin.
Gi-san accuses Rin of cursing him and has Rin confined to the palace. Rin proclaims his innocence but Moo-seok refuses to listen.
Do-ha is insulted and humiliated by the merchant Yeon-wol. On her way home, she is drawn to the forest where she finds Rin and hides him in her room.
Rin seeks help from Park Soo-jong but is turned away by his daughter Soo-ryeon. Meanwhile, Gi-san's loyal servant Moo-seok spots Do-ha with Sadam.
Rin becomes jealous when Do-ha cares for Moo-seok’s wounds. Meanwhile, Sadam, enraged at being slapped by the king, goes to Yeon-wol to make a deal.
Sadam summons a fire ghost which sets the capital ablaze. Do-ha rescues a trapped Rin, and Sadam advises Gi-san on how to stop the fires.
The capital is overrun with ghosts and Rin tries to keep Sadam away from Gi-san. Meanwhile, Soo-ryeon loses her exclusive medicine rights to Yeon-wol.
Sadam is driven out of the palace, and Rin seeks the truth regarding the incident 12 years ago but the queen dowager and Sang-heon remain silent.
Sang-heon learns Sadam summoned the ghosts and begins telling Rin what happened 12 years ago, but Sadam sends a plague god after the queen dowager.
Do-ha tries to learn her sister's location from Sadam. Meanwhile, Rin visits the queen dowager Chungsoo and sees the plague god inside the palace.
A rumor spreads that Rin summoned the plague god and as medicine runs out, the king blames Rin then expels the queen dowager from the palace.
Rin revives the night watchmen to oppose Sadam who is now the head of the national temple. Soo-ryeon sees Rin and Do-ha hug and vows revenge.
The reassembled night watchmen arrive at the plague-stricken shrine where the queen dowager is recovering, but she is possessed by the plague god.
Rin's feelings for Do-ha grow. A jealous Soo-ryeon pleads with Sadam to make Rin's heart hers, and is told to deliver Do-ha in return.
Sadam plans to change vengeful ghosts into evil spirits. When Rin and the others try to stop him, they encounter the ghost of tragedy!
The ghost of tragedy uses magic on a sleeping Rin. Sadam says he will lay the ghosts to rest, but traps them in his staff instead.
Rin is possessed and attacks Sang-heon, but Do-ha purifies the Millennium Flower and saves Rin from the ghost of tragedy's spell. Rin devises a plan.
An accident occurs at the construction site. Tempted by Sadam, Gi-san agrees to sacrifice the innocent workers, and Sadam creates a fake Do-ha.
Sadam obtains the staff with the trapped ghosts and continues his attempt to revive Imugi while the memory of Yeon-ha begins to stir within Yeon-wol.
Do-ha realizes her sister's spirit is inside Yeon-wol. Fear drives Gi-san insane, and he begins killing people as the palace descends into chaos.
Do-ha decides to leave the capital, Gi-san tries to lay blame for the ghost problems on Rin, and Rin questions Soo-ryeon after seeing her with Sadam.
Park Soo-jong revolts and demands the royal seal from the queen dowager. Moo-seok quits the night watchmen and goes to court with his uncle Soo-jong.
Captured by Sadam, Do-ha uses her own life to force Sadam to save Rin. Meanwhile, Moo-seok prepares to cross over into the land of the dead.
Soo-jong goes to find the seal at the queen dowager’s shrine, but Rin and Moo-seok get there first and use the power of the seal to stop his army.
Soo-jong obtains the seal and orders Rin’s death. The queen dowager is wounded-- she begs Gi-san to abdicate the throne to Rin.
Sadam destroys the one weapon that can defeat Imugi with the royal seal. Soo-ryeon returns with the seal, but Sadam's henchman sneaks up behind her.
Gi-san tries to kill himself, but the supposedly dead queen dowager appears. Sadam absorbs the Millennium Flower and tries to become a dragon god.
