The Making of You Again

You Again is a 2010 American comedy film produced by John J. Strauss and Eric Tannenbaum and directed by Andy Fickman, with music by Nathan Wang and written by Moe Jelline. The film stars Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver, Odette Yustman, James Wolk, Victor Garber, Billy Unger, Kyle Bornheimer, Kristin Chenoweth, and Betty White in her final live-action film acting role before her death in 2021.

One interesting aspect of the film is its all-star cast, which includes some of Hollywood's most talented and beloved actors, such as Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Sigourney Weaver. The film also features a mini-reunion of three cast members from the popular sitcom Step by Step, including Patrick Duffy, Staci Keanan, and Christine Lakin.

Despite negative reviews from critics, You Again still managed to earn $32 million against a production budget of $20 million. The film was the last solo project of Touchstone Pictures before working on subsequent films in association with Miramax, DreamWorks, South African films, Studio Ghibli, and Lucasfilm, leading to Touchstone signing a deal with DreamWorks Pictures in 2011, starting with I Am Number Four. The rivalry between the two grandmothers, Betty White and Cloris Leachman, is a reference to the conflict between the two on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

The Cast of You Again

Kristen Bell plays Marni Olsen, the successful public relations executive who returns to her hometown for her brother's wedding. Bell is known for her role as Veronica Mars in the television series of the same name, as well as her roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Good Place, and Frozen.

Jamie Lee Curtis plays Gail, Marni and Will's mother. Curtis is known for her roles in Halloween, Trading Places, and True Lies, as well as her work as an author and activist.

Sigourney Weaver plays Ramona, Joanna's successful and wealthy businesswoman aunt. Weaver is known for her roles in the Alien franchise, Ghostbusters, and Avatar, as well as her work as a producer and environmental activist.

Odette Yustman plays Joanna, Marni's former high school bully and Will's fiancée. Yustman is known for her roles in Cloverfield, The Unborn, and October Road.

Betty White plays Grandma Bunny, Will and Marni's grandmother. White was a beloved actress and comedian known for her roles in The Golden Girls, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Hot in Cleveland, among others.

Andy Fickman is the director of You Again. Fickman is known for his work on She's the Man, Race to Witch Mountain, and The Game Plan, among others.

You Again: A Comedy That Sticks With You

You Again may have received negative reviews from critics, but this movie holds a special place in my heart. The all-star cast, the hilarious plot, and the heartwarming ending make it a must-watch for anyone who loves a good comedy. The movie's themes of forgiveness and second chances are relatable and endearing, and the characters are lovable and memorable.

Kristen Bell shines as the lead, Marni, bringing her signature wit and humor to the role. Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver are equally fantastic as Marni's mother and Joanna's aunt, respectively. And of course, the late Betty White steals the show with her hilarious one-liners and impeccable comedic timing.

The movie may have had a modest box office return, but I believe it deserves more recognition for its clever writing and heartwarming message. You Again is a movie that will stick with you long after the credits roll.

If you haven't seen You Again yet, I highly suggest signing up for ExpressVPN and watching it on Netflix. And with ExpressVPN, you can also unlock many more movies and shows that may not be available in your country. Trust me, it's worth it!
