Plot Summary of Pixels

Pixels is a science fiction comedy film that follows the story of Sam Brenner and his friend Will Cooper. Sam is an electronics installer while Will is the President of the United States. The movie starts with a flashback to 1982, where Sam and Will are playing video games at an arcade. Sam loses to Eddie, and the footage is included in a time capsule launched into space. Fast forward to present day, an alien race misinterprets the video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war and invades Earth. They use technology inspired by 1980s video games such as Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Arkanoid, Galaga, Centipede, and Donkey Kong, to attack the planet. In response, the United States hires former arcade champions to lead the planet's defense.

Sam and his friend Ludlow "The Wonder Kid" Lamonsoff deduce that the aliens have mistaken the videocassette images for a declaration of war and are attacking Earth with a strange technology that allows them to morph into the video games featured at the championship. The aliens challenge the people of Earth to a battle, where if the aliens win three times, they will conquer the planet. Sam and Ludlow train Navy SEALs to play the games, while Violet van Patten, a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, develops rayguns that are effective against the aliens. The team heads to various locations across the globe, including London and New York City, to fight off the alien invasions.

The movie is action-packed, and the visual effects are impressive. The storyline is unique, combining computer-animated video game characters and visual effects. The film's cast includes Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, and Brian Cox. Pixels received generally negative reviews, with critics saying it's similar to other video game films. However, the movie still managed to gross $244 million worldwide against a production budget of between $88 million and $129 million.

Are Pixels Worth Your Time?

If you are a fan of classic arcade games, Pixels might be a fun way to relive some nostalgia. However, as a movie, it falls short in many areas. The plot is predictable, the humor is crude and often falls flat, and the characters are one-dimensional. The visual effects are impressive, but they are not enough to carry the movie.

Despite its flaws, Pixels has a certain charm that may appeal to some viewers. The cast is talented, and they do their best with the material they are given. The movie's unique concept is also a plus, combining computer-animated video game characters and visual effects to create a fun and action-packed storyline.

Overall, Pixels is an average movie that may be worth a watch for fans of classic arcade games or fans of the cast. However, if you are looking for a well-written and well-executed movie, Pixels may not be for you.
