The Plot of "Big Stan":

"Big Stan" is a comedy film that tells the story of Stan Minton (Rob Schneider), a wealthy real estate con artist who is arrested for swindling elderly people out of their savings. His lawyer Mal (Richard Kind) defends him at trial, but Stan is eventually found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison. Before he goes to jail, he is given six months to "reorganize the charity" he established to teach music to mentally disabled children.

Feeling scared about his upcoming sentence, Stan decides to hire a mysterious martial arts guru known as "The Master" (David Carradine) to help him learn the skills he needs to survive in prison. Once he's inside, Stan befriends an elderly inmate named Larry (Henry Gibson) and a sympathetic prison guard named Bullard (Kevin Gage). Using his newfound martial arts skills, Stan brings peace to the prison yard by intimidating his fellow inmates and preventing them from harming each other.

However, the corrupt warden Gasque (Scott Wilson) has plans to force the prison's closure with a riot and sell off the property as valuable real estate. Stan helps him with the real estate aspects in exchange for early parole, but his peacemaking efforts threaten the warden's plan for a riot. In a last-minute attack of conscience, Stan deliberately blows the parole hearing to rush back and prevent the deaths of his fellow inmates. He discovers that his message of peace has sunk in and the prisoners are dancing instead of fighting. In the end, Stan leaves prison a changed man - but not without a few surprises in store for him.

The Production of "Big Stan":

"Big Stan" was produced, directed, and starred in by Rob Schneider in his directorial debut with help from his company From Out of Nowhere Productions. The rest of the cast includes Jennifer Morrison, Scott Wilson, Henry Gibson, Richard Kind, Sally Kirkland, Jackson Rathbone, M. Emmet Walsh, Dan Haggerty, and David Carradine. Interestingly, this was Gibson's final role before his death in 2009.

The movie was released straight to DVD in the United States on March 24, 2009, but was released in some markets during the fall of 2008. Despite its lack of critical acclaim, "Big Stan" found a dedicated fanbase and has since become a cult classic among comedy movie fans.

One of the most interesting aspects of the production is Schneider's decision to tackle the subject of prison life and the martial arts genre in a comedy film. The movie features a blend of slapstick humor and martial arts action, which was a unique combination at the time of its release. Additionally, the casting of David Carradine as "The Master" added an extra layer of intrigue to the movie, as Carradine was known for his role in the martial arts classic "Kill Bill".

While "Big Stan" may not have been a commercial success, it has since gained a dedicated following and has earned a place in the pantheon of cult comedy movies. The film's blend of humor and action, along with its unique subject matter, has made it a memorable entry in Schneider's filmography.

The Cast of "Big Stan":

Rob Schneider stars in the movie as Stan Minton, a wealthy con artist who gets sentenced to prison and turns to martial arts to survive. Schneider is also the director and producer of the film. He is known for his work in other comedy movies such as "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo" and "The Animal".

David Carradine plays "The Master", the mysterious martial arts guru who teaches Stan how to fight. Carradine is best known for his role as Bill in Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" films. He also starred in the TV series "Kung Fu" and appeared in numerous other movies and TV shows throughout his career.

Jennifer Morrison plays Mindy, Stan's wife. Morrison is best known for her role as Dr. Allison Cameron on the TV series "House". She has also appeared in movies such as "Star Trek" and "Warrior".

Big Stan: Big Miss?

As someone who loves a good comedy movie, I must say that Big Stan left me wanting more. The concept of a real estate con artist learning martial arts to survive in prison had potential, but the execution fell flat. The humor was mostly slapstick and juvenile, and the plot was predictable and cliché. The performances of the cast were decent, but nothing outstanding.

While Big Stan has gained a cult following among comedy movie fans, I can't say that I would recommend it as a must-see. It's not a terrible movie by any means, but it's not a great one either. It's mediocre, at best. It's possible that others might find it more enjoyable, but I personally found myself wishing for more clever jokes and a more engaging storyline.

If you're interested in watching Big Stan, you can use ExpressVPN to unlock it on Netflix in the United Kingdom and many more countries. ExpressVPN is a great way to access content that might not be available in your region, so sign up today and start watching!
