What is Creed about?

Adonis Johnson, the son of the late boxing champion Apollo Creed, grows up in foster care and never knows his father. Despite his comfortable life, Adonis is haunted by the desire to follow in his father's footsteps and become a professional boxer.

Adonis decides to leave his job and head to Philadelphia to seek out Rocky Balboa, his father's longtime friend and rival, to help him train. Rocky initially refuses, but eventually agrees to take him on as a pupil, and the two form a close bond as they work towards Adonis's goal of becoming a professional boxer.

As Adonis's career takes off, he must navigate the challenges of the boxing world while also grappling with personal demons and the legacy of his father. With Rocky by his side, Adonis learns the true meaning of family, friendship, and what it takes to be a champion.

The Making of Creed

Directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, Creed was released in 2015 as a spin-off and sequel to the iconic Rocky film series. Coogler, who was a huge fan of the original Rocky movies, wrote the screenplay with Aaron Covington, with Sylvester Stallone reprising his role as Rocky Balboa.

The film was praised for its strong performances, particularly from Jordan and Stallone, as well as its portrayal of the boxing world and the legacy of the Creed and Balboa characters. In fact, Stallone received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards for his role in the film.

Creed's success led to a sequel, Creed II, which was released in 2018 and also directed by Coogler. The film continued the story of Adonis Creed and his family, as he faced off against the son of another famous boxer from the Rocky series.

Cast and Characters

Michael B. Jordan stars as Adonis Johnson, the son of Apollo Creed who seeks to follow in his father's footsteps and become a professional boxer. Jordan is also known for his roles in Black Panther, Fruitvale Station, and The Wire.
