With the last days of summer fading into the freshness of fall, this is the perfect time to gather up a couple of friends for a little physically distanced fun. Whether you plan a remote watch party or choose to hunker down with your favorite buddy in your living room you are not going to want to miss these five fun films!
What beats beauty pageants, drag queens and a little daughter versus mother showdown on the small stage? Dumplin’ has all this and a great Dolly Parton inspired soundtrack, too! In this Netflix Original, Willowdean, a Texas teen with a former beauty queen mother (Jennifer Aniston) challenges the traditional standards of beauty and acceptance when she enters the local beauty pageant. With a little help from her best friend and a few new friends, Will finds the confidence to be who she is – on purpose. This film is cute, fun and is sure to pull on your heartstrings, too.
The Perfect Date
Driven by the need to raise money for his college tuition, high school senior Brooks Rattigan (Noah Centineo) markets himself as The Perfect Date on a self-made dating app. He quickly becomes a popular plus-one for any occasion and begins raking in the cash, all the while dreaming of a life where he really is the perfect date for one of the most popular girls in school. Brooks risks losing his friends, a real shot at love and himself as he strives to become everything he’s not. The Perfect Date is a thoroughly enjoyable chick flick with just the right blend of cheesy humor and heart!
Always Be My Maybe
Old friends, new love? Maybe. In this genuinely wonderful film, childhood friends, Marcus (Randall Park) and Sasha (Ali Wong), are reunited when successful Sasha returns to her hometown to open a restaurant. Marcus, employed at his family’s business, is instantly reminded of all the heart-warming and awkward memories that he and Sasha shared and it doesn’t take long before he falls, once again, for his old pal. Sasha, coming off of a broken engagement, rebounds hard –enter hilarious Keanu Reeves cameo – and eventually finds herself finding lasting love, right where it’s always been, maybe.
High school can be a rough time where most teens spend more than a little time feeling like they are too much and not enough at the same time. This is definitely true for Tall Girl Jodi Kreyman (Ava Michelle). Standing at an above average 6 feet and one and a half inches, Jodi’s main occupation seems to be making herself invisible but a new student at her school ignites her drive to fully be seen once again – or maybe for the first time. Jodi turns to her sister for a make-over and her best friends for more than a few words of encouragement. But, in the end, Jodi discovers the truth of her own strength and beauty by being true to who he has always been.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
This teen rom-com doesn’t miss a beat as it spins the tail of Lara Jean Covey and her once-secret stash of love letters. When her little sister mails the letters Lara had penned in secret to all the boys she has ever had crushes on Lara needs to do some quick damage control. She strikes a deal with the ex-boyfriend of a classmate to pretend to date each other in order to make his ex jealous and put some distance between her and all her former crushes who seem to be popping up out of nowhere. Their plan works like a gem until real feelings begin to grow and throws their plan and their friendship into confusion.
